Jan Šovar spoke at the Luxembourg & CEE Investment Forum: Connecting Capital and Opportunities in Prague on 22 September 2026, on a panel devoted to the Czech PE/VC market, regional opportunities and cross-border investment.
Jan set out the range of fund structures available under Czech law, with the SICAV as the most flexible vehicle for implementing a wide spread of strategies. His central point: in legal structuring terms, Czech law already offers solutions comparable to those available in Luxembourg.
Luxembourg’s standing as a global fund centre is another matter. It was built over decades and the Czech Republic should not set out to replicate it. The attainable goal is for the Czech Republic to become the leading fund hub for the CEE region, and that turns less on fund law than on tax treatment, wider use of IFRS in accounting, and a capital markets strategy with clear long-term objectives and support from policymakers.
Our thanks to the organisers for convening the Luxembourg and Czech fund communities around one table.
