FINREG PARTNERS Assisted in Obtaining the First PSD2 License on the Czech Market for Spendee

On 28 December 2018, the Czech start-up Spendee, represented by our law firm, became the first in the Czech Republic to obtain a licence from the Czech National Bank (CNB) to provide payment account information services under the new Payment Services Directive (PSD2). With this licence, Spendee is now fully able to participate in the open banking system, positioning itself as one of the pioneers in Czech fintech. Spendee’s app allows users to track their payment transaction details, providing an effective tool for managing personal finances.

The process of obtaining the licence took more than three-quarters of a year. “We had to navigate the process ourselves and interpret the wording of the Payment Services Directive (PSD2), as there was no uniform model or previous case to follow,” says FINREG PARTNERS attorney Jan Šovar.
